Datasembly, Inc. raised $16M in funding. The Virginia-based market intelligence platform provides data collection and analytics services to around 230 retail partners. The Series B round was led by Noro-Moseley Partners — an Atlanta VC that backs tech startups in the southeastern United States.
+ Hopscotch Raises $20M in Series E Round of Funding
In a Series E round led by investors of note including Amazon and Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook, Hopscotch Pvt. Ltd. raised $20M. Founded in 2011, the India-based company manufactures kids' apparel, footwear and accessories. Rahul Anand, Founder and CEO of Hopscotch says, "This investment allows us to invest in marketing, broaden our selection, and enable more customers to express their unique sense of style."
+ BandLab Technologies Raises $25M in Series B Funding
BandLab, the social music creation platform boasting 60M registered users, raised $25M in Series B funding. Headquartered in Singapore, Central Singapore, the company’s subsidiaries include The Guitar Magazine and media company NME among others. BandLab Technologies Pte. Ltd. Investors include Cercano Management and Prosus Ventures.
+ Purplle.com Raises $50M in Secondary Market Funding
Online retailer Purplle raised $50M in secondary market funding via Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Manish Taneja and Rahul Dash established Purplle in 2011. An already successful e-commerce marketplace for beauty and personal care products, Purplle is looking to expand its presence into physical locations in major metropolitan areas.
+ University of Chicago Receives $75M in Grant Funding
The University of Chicago along with the University of Tokyo were both recipients of $75M grants from IBM and Google totaling $150M. Philanthropy News Digest says the investment is part of an effort to advance quantum-computing research for the U.S.-led partnership with Japan and Western European nations intended to counter China’s investments in quantum computing.
